WASHINGTON — A second House Democrat, Rep. Maxine Waters of California, could face an ethics trial this fall, further complicating the election outlook for the party as it battles to retain its majority.

People familiar with the investigation, who were not authorized to be quoted about charges before they are made public, say the allegations could be announced next week. The House ethics committee declined Friday to make any public statement on the matter.

Waters, 71, has been under investigation for a possible conflict of interest involving a bank that was seeking federal aid. Her husband owned stock in the bank and had served on its board.

New York Democrat Rep. Charles Rangel also faces an ethics trial this fall on charges that include failure to disclose assets and income, nonpayment of taxes and doing legislative favors for donors to a college center named after him.

North Korea may launch a long-range ballistic missile

North Korea may launch a long-range ballistic missile towards Hawaii on American Independence Day, according to Japanese intelligence officials.The missile, believed to be a Taepodong-2 with a range of up to 4,000 miles, would be launched in early July from the Dongchang-ni site on the north-western coast of the secretive country.

Intelligence analysts do not believe the device would be capable of hitting Hawaii's main islands, which are 4,500 miles from North Korea.

Earlier this week, firefighters battled two wildfires that hit Southern California. The first fire known as the Bull Fire, hit the southeast part of Tehachapi. Authorities confirmed that the Bull Fire is now 12 percent contained and destroyed more than 16,000 acres. Two small boxes he bought 10 years ago for $45 -- negotiated down from $70 -- are now estimated to be worth at least $200 million, according to a Beverly Hills art appraiser.

Those boxes contained 65 glass negatives created by famed nature photographer Ansel Adams in the early period of his career. Experts believed the negatives were destroyed in a 1937 darkroom fire that destroyed 5,000 plates.

“After a decade's worth of effort, musicians from Columbus State Community College will get the chance to perform on a stage once filled by John Philip Sousa. The Tuesday concert at the Southern Theatre will serve as a rite of passage for the college's four performance groups - Chorus Columbus State, the Gospel Vocal Ensemble, the Woodwind Ensemble and the Concert Band.

“The concert will be the first for the groups in the theater. 'I've been working on this for 10 years, to get us into the Southern,' said Thomas Lloyd, who teaches music history at the college and directs the Concert Band and Woodwind Ensemble. Lloyd sought the Southern for a pair of reasons. 'It does lend us a degree of credibility,' he said. 'And it's a wonderful venue.' The four groups will perform some classics of band and choral music.”

“The band will also play a movement from Afro-American Symphony by William Grant Still, a mid-20th-century composer whose career included stints in Ohio.” “The Woodwind Ensemble will play Folk Suite No. 1 by Still. Last night the kids had their race. Because Aiden is 5 and Addy is 3 they ran the same race. Prior to the race it poured with some severe lightning and thunder. I was thinking it was going to be canceled, but the rain stopped and humidity hit hard. Because Aiden is 5 they ran by age so we were one of the last heats. We stood there waiting for about an hour. It took FOREVER! However, Addy was well behaved and Aiden found a caterpillar so he was distracted. We finally ran and they had a good time and took great pride in their medals and Twinkies and hot dogs.

This morning I woke up at 4 am due to a loud burst of thunder and lightning. I planned on waking up at 4:30, but my nerves started to kick in and I decided to just get up. I made a pot of coffee and ate an egg sandwich, did some reading, messed around on the internet all while getting up and moving around about 20

Kaye Cowher dies

Kaye Cowher, the wife of former Pittsburgh Steelers coach Bill Cowher, died Friday after battling skin cancer, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported. She was 54.

Born Kaye Young in Bunn, N.C., she met Bill Cowher at N.C. State in 1976, where he was a football player and she and her twin sister Faye played women's basketball. The couple married in 19a81.

Kaye Cowher played a key role in her husband's decision to retire from coaching in 2007 and move full-time to Raleigh, so the family could be together as their daughters completed their high school and college basketball careers.

Meagan, Lauren, and Lindsay Cowher all followed their mothers' footsteps into Division I college basketball. Meagan and Lauren played together at Princeton, while Lindsay currently plays at Wofford.

After the usual influenza in the autumn of last year, Jennings said that she began to experience fever and painful body aches. The symptoms rapidly progressed until she could walk only with twisted, the termination step, and it was difficult to read, making simple math – even remembering things. Her condition put an end to its once wild life.

“I want to work, I want to do something,” she said. “But who will hire someone who can not remember what they did yesterday?”

Jennings developed another symptom of the odd – odd foreign accent, the Midwestern woman suddenly sounded British. “It sounds as an accent, but it is not. I just can not say a word more,” she said.

But perhaps the worst thing that happens when Jennings was trying to recall specific memories. In its “20/20″ interview, speech, Jennings handed stuttering, it’s a complete nonsense.

“The mind keeps bouncing around and it will not stand for that memory,” she said. “He gets garbled up on a bad hard drive, so to speak.”

Theo Ratliff And Matt Barnes Keep Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers have sat back and watched while the Miami Heat have stolen the spotlight by signing three big name free agents this off season. LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh have been the brightest stars signed this summer, but that does not mean the Lakers are handing over their throne.

L.A. has won two straight NBA championships, and this week they have taken steps to ensure that a third may be in their future next June. The Heat may have landed the stars, but the Lakers added two veteran presences that could help them defend their title.

Theo Ratliff and Matt Barnes both signed with Los Angeles this week. Ratliff will provide defense and rebounding off the bench as a backup center, and Barnes will bring even more toughness to a team that already added Ron Artest last off season.

Kobe Bryant has now made it a habit of seeking out players that have mental and physical toughness, and luring them to L.A. Barnes gave Bryant a shout out on his Twitter account after announcing he was signing with the Lakers. Barnes will be another shooter and strong defender off the bench for the Lakers.

Clearly, the Barnes move was made to off set any advantage the Heat may have if the teams meet in the finals. Analysts have pointed out that Wade, Bryant, Gasol and Bosh should cancel each other out. With Artest, and all NBA defender, and Barnes, the Lakers now have two guys that can play lock down defense on James. Throw in Andre Bynum and Lamar Odom, and it appears L.A. may again be the favorites to win the NBA tile next season.

Sara Gilbert Brings Lesbian Mommyhood

When As The World Turns stops turning this fall on CBS, the network will launch a The View competitor with a half dozen semi-recognizable female names hosting a lady-obsessed show with a focus on motherhood and kids. There will be a homosexual woman on it!

We've got Big Brother host Julie Chen (who happens to be married to CBS chief Les Moonves), America's Got Talent's Sharon Osbourne, Holly Robinson Peete (from Celebrity Apprentice), Leah Remini (from the Church of Scientology and Fat Guy, Skinny Wife), and Marissa Jaret Winokur, who is The Awesome.

And then there's Sara Gilbert, of Roseanne and The Big Bang Theory fame, who will not only appear on the show but also developed it; she'll serve as executive producer. She's also a lesbian. And a mom! Wife Allison Adler gave birth to son Levi in 2004, and Sara had daughter Sawyer in 2007.

I would very much like to see this as-yet-untitled show air segments from The View where Sherri Shepherd discusses her own parenting skills, and then have Sara Gilbert match wits. Because this is already how I watch The View in my head. by queerty

GM to buy AmeriCredit Corp

GM is already working with AmeriCredit to provide auto loans to customers with "non-prime" or poor credit ratings. But this deal will also allow GM to do more with leases, which after almost dying during the recession are starting to make a comeback in the auto industry and could account for as much as a quarter of auto sales this year.

"This is a really good, strong, strategic move for the company. Every car they don't sell because of a lack of financing is money left on the table and negatively impacts the balance sheet," said Rebecca Lindland, an analyst with IHS Automotive.

The automaker said it will continue to work with Ally Financial, the former GMAC finance company, for loans to customers with good credit and to provide inventory financing for dealers.

It would be both politically and financially untenable to sever the relationship with Ally to channel all of its financing business to AmeriCredit, said Kirk Ludtke, an analyst at CRT Capital Group inStamford, Conn.

4chan is family oriented

The top searched keyword at the moment is that 4chan is family oriented. That is a very weird and nonsensical notion because 4chan is not a person; it is a website that hosts anonymous posts along with images. Anyone could post anything on 4chan without any apparent restrictions, apart from their rules. The concept of the website being family oriented really doesn’t make any sense because assuming that 4chan was indeed family oriented, they would never have had the “adult” section of their forum that has nothing but nude and r rated pictures. Inclusion of that forum makes 4chan a non-family oriented website.

There are definitely some very interesting forums on the 4chan website and most of them contain information that couldn’t be found anywhere else on the internet, but that doesn’t make the site family oriented. The only thing that might have made the 4chan website somewhat family oriented is a new forum topic by the name of “relationship issues” or “how to be a good father” or maybe even something like “family issues”, but clearly there isn’t anything like that on the website and that makes the website a very “individual” approach site that is suitable only for people who are viewing the site without the accompaniment of a family member (well maybe a spouse doesn’t count).

There are millions of people searching for how 4chan is family oriented but there isn’t a valid answer to that question yet and there doesn’t seem to be anyone who has the slightest clue as to what this thing means. by infocust

500 million active monthly users on Facebook

Facebook on Wednesday announced a remarkable milestone: 500 million active monthly users. And the velocity of its growth raises a mind-boggling possibility: Could Facebook reach 1 billion "friends" next year? That would be roughly 1 out of every 7 human beings on the planet.

If Facebook gallops ahead at its current pace, the 1 billion mark would indeed be reached in 2011. Zuckerberg, 26, has said the 1 billion milestone is "almost a guarantee" — not a matter of if, but when.

The free service lets individuals share news, photos, videos and comments with personal networks of "friends," and makes money primarily through advertisements targeted to users based on information gleaned from their online profiles.

4 Oil Firms Commit $1 Billion for Gulf Rapid

The voluntary effort, which involves building a set of modular containment equipment that would be kept on standby for emergency use, comes as oil companies seek to persuade the Obama administration to lift a temporary ban on deepwater drilling. The moratorium was imposed after the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig exploded on April 20 and spewed millions of gallons of oil into the gulf.

Officials said the spill served as a wake-up call for the industry, which had invested billions of dollars to develop oil and gas resources in ever-deeper waters offshore but neglected to devise spill-response technology that could be effective in thousands of feet of water.

Environmentalists, members of Congress and federal and state officials have already made it clear that the industry will face tougher regulations when drilling resumes. The emergency response plan is part of the oil industry’s effort to show it can improve its safety procedures and shape the inevitable rules of conduct that will be imposed.

The plan — which was put together by Exxon Mobil, Chevron, ConocoPhillips and Royal Dutch Shell — incorporates many of the lessons that BP was forced to learn the hard way in trying to cap a gushing oil well 5,000 feet below the ocean’s surface.

Another day, another Bieber rumor and today’s hot gossip suggests that Canadian teen sensation Justin Bieber has converted to Scientology.

We’ve done our standard background checking on the rumor, and besides some contact with Will Smith’s kid, Bieber has had no contact with Scientologist that we can find.

This isn’t to say that the rumor might not be true: Scientology has strong entertainment industry backers and are always on the lookouts for converts.
